Healthy Living

At Little Learners we are passionate about the holistic health of our children and practitioners and have a ‘Physical Activity and Nutrition Programme’ in place.

     Food and Nutrition

We have two fantastic Chef’s at nursery who prepare healthy nutritious and balanced meals and snacks, which meet individual needs and requirements. We believe that mealtimes should be happy, social occasions for children and staff alike. We promote shared, enjoyable positive interactions at these times.

The children are offered a balanced and healthy choice of breakfast, midday meal, tea and a daily snack which we provided for children attending a full day at nursery. Menus are well planned, using guidance from dietitians and  Department of Education guidance. Meals are rotated over a four week basis and will reflect cultural diversity and variation. Milk and water are provided at mealtimes and fresh drinking water is always available and accessible to children.

We are currently working with the Local Authority and working towards Trafford’s Healthy Setting Award.

Outdoor play here at Little Learners is an extension of our indoor learning environment. There is no such thing as bad weather as there is always a learning moment to be seized even in the wettest of days.

Outdoor play allows our children to explore, experiment and use their imagination while developing a love and appreciation for nature.

We are also extremely lucky to have our own small growing area where children can grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers whilst learning about sustainability and life cycles. Outdoor play is important to us at Little Learners as research suggests it improves mental health and wellbeing and improves sleep as well as developing skills that children need as they grow such as social skills, cooperation, sharing and communication.

Here at Little Learners we were fortunate enough to have one of our practitioners, trained by Rabert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance to teach a dance workshop for children age 2 plus.

Every Tuesday Katie works across the nursery, encouraging children to express themselves through dance. This supports children with their gross motor skills as well as hand eye coordination. Katie creates a bespoke dance routine for each room she goes in based on the children’s interests.
