Health and Nutrition

Our nutritional policy aims are:

• To provide children under 5 with a wide and nutritionally balanced diet to develop their health, growth and well being.
• To show children that meal times are a good time to socialise with each other and to share food together.

We believe that children should eat a varied diet because this is associated with better health as it is more likely to contain all the vitamins and minerals the body needs. We provide foods from each of the four main food groups every day to help support every child’s needs.

Children are offered milk and water to drink throughout the day but sugary drinks are avoided as these can lead to tooth decay and tend to be high in calories and low in vitamins and minerals.

Snacks for the children such as fruit, rice cakes and breadsticks are nutritious and free of added sugar. Working alongside the local dental team we encourage the children to develop good oral hygiene practices and brush their teeth everyday.

All our foods are freshly  prepared every day by our qualified chefs. Children receive three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Lunch is always a hot cooked meal and the babies also have a cooked meal for their tea.

Babies who are still on formula feeds will have their feeds freshly made up as they require them. Mums who are still breast feeding babies are welcome to come into the nursery at any time to feed baby. Alternatively breast milk may be expressed and brought in each day or frozen and stored in the nursery freezer for your babies use.
